Alan Hibbs,
one of the co-founders of FIG, author of the book
"Confocal Microscopy
for Biologist" and well known to many in the confocal
community, died in May 2006.
Alan will be
missed in
Australia by his
many colleagues, but he will be especially well remembered by the
Fluorescence Imaging Group. Alan was instrumental in organising many of
the imaging workshops and other scientific events in
Australia between
1999 and 2006. We have collated anecdotes and condolences from the
international confocal microscopy community and also reproduce a eulogy
(reproduced by kind permission of Australian Society for Biochemistry and
